Resume
Column by John Stix

PERSONAL
STATEMENT: I started playing guitar when I was 12. After a year
I joined my first metal band. During junior high and high school
I performed throughout Indiana with rock and metal bands as well
as with my school jazz band. At 16 I started teaching at two music
stores and demoing musical gear. After high school I performed and
recorded with several metal, Top 40, funk, and classic rock bands.
Since moving to L.A. at age 20 I have been written up in Guitar
Player, Kerrang!, BAM, Rock City News, Hijinx and G-Force magazines.
I am endorsed by ESP guitars and Seymour Duncan pickups, for whom
I have performed at the last three Anaheim NAMM shows. My instrumentals,
including "Deadline" (which is available on the Shrapnel compilation
disc Ominous Guitarists from the Unknown], have received airplay
throughout the U.S. and Europe. Currently I am recording with an
original hard rock band, doing sessions, giving lessons, gigging
with a cover band and working on my instrumentals.
COMMENT:
Joy shows that mega-chops, the imagination to do something with
them, and a sense of dynamics all can exist simultaneously and harmoniously.
Keep an ear out for Joy Basu
